Dance! No, really just dance!

Hey ya'll. Go see Billy Elliot.

Okay seriously, the first thing I noticed was the set. The set was nicely put together. When you first see it you are drawn in and just gaze upon the work as if it was a real town. And the suprises continue through the show, as the scenes shift seamlessly and with great detail. And when needed the stage is a blank slate. Angry dance anyone...?

Then the little Billy. He may be a small actor but his heart is huge and it comes through in the show. I felt what the character of Billy felt. I felt anger, I felt electricity, I felt joy and tears. The skill of that little person is not to underestimated!

And lastly the story line. Many of you may be familiar with the story as it does pull from a movie, and if you are not that is okay too. Billy Elliot is in us all. He is the embodiment of our dreams. So if you are human you will be able to relate, and they are strong actors that pull you into their emotions. You feel the pain of the strike and the pull of Billy's dream! And Tony! He made me melt, such conviction in his beliefs (and he was cute) made me wish he had more story time!

Mrs. Mountains, We Are Alive

Next to Normal opened Jan. 4th and runs through the 16th down at the Ellie Caukins Opera house in the Performing Arts Complex. It stars Alice Ripley as Diana Goodman.

Note: I have mulled over what I wanted to say about Next to Normal for at least a day now. I am still at a loss for words. So this will be the shortest post ever.

Next to Normal is amazing. It reaches in to ones soul and asks 'Who are you?' The journey it takes is beyond description, leading one to find an inner light. That journey is gut wrenching and emotional and fantastic and everything you could ever feel.

So, if as Ms. Ripley says, you are "still out there in the dark". Go see the show. If you have found the light go see the show and walk along side one of us that are still looking.

P.S. Alice is amazing as Diana and in real life!

P.P.S. Heidi: You made a boy's dreams come true. I met my hero. Thanks.

I Feel Love

Oh Blue Man! You rocked my face off. Really the show is hard to put into words, one feels such a primal unexplainable feeling in your gut, but here are my two cents.

Blue Man officially opened their Denver run on Dec. 7th and what a show. The show is packed with everything, humor, dance, awesome beats, all the goodies that one would expect, and then some. The audience is not only enjoying the show, but gets to be part of the show. From eating Twinkies to painting to just having a good ol' time I was part of the show. The audience is allowed to laugh and clap and dance and shake your money maker and just in general have a good time. I know I said that twice, I want you to understand that the show is A BLAST! Go see it! The show is a pure visual and audio overload, it takes a while to just let it all out. And when one does it is in the finally. And what a way to go out! I know my hiney was bumping all the way out the theatre.

Enchanting

I just had the privilege to see South Pacific (July 20th-Aug 1st at the Buell) tonight. It was an enchanting piece of work.

South Pacific is considered by many to be one of the greats in musical history. I would wholeheartedly concur. The show is very well put together, thoughtful and elegant, as well as lighthearted and enchanting. It opens with two adorable children singing and the Frenchman. How can that not set you in a good mood? Then Nellie's first song sets the tone for her to be a happy and charming lady, and her voice is fantastic. The style she puts into the song just takes it to the top, she embodies the time that the show premiered. The show also brings with it great comedy, Bloody Mary, Billis, and the boys. It brings to light what the state of the nation was in when the show came out back in the day.

Along with the lightheartedness that South Pacific carries, it brings two big themes, a spirit of love and the hope that a dream can bring. Bali Ha'i is always there, but seems unattainable. Yet the power is in the hope, the dream, of Bali Ha'i, at least for the boys. For Nellie it is in Emile that the embodiment of love is shown, after all South Pacific is a love story, and she brings that to light in great song and dance. These were the two themes that really carried and will stick with me from the show.

Overall, you will have a great time, your evening will be enchanting and you will end up leaving with a soul warmed by a fantastic show. Go see South Pacific, I highly doubt anyone would leave disappointed.

Blonde Bombshell

OMG guys! It is like totally my like post on Legally Blonde like from the Buell like on opening night! Eeeek!

Seriously though, Legally Blonde is an amazing show. The first few notes you hear really grab and pull one in. Once it has got you, the show just does not let go. And that is a good thing. Now not being the greatest of writers and America not being huge into reading I am going to give you 11 reasons to see Legally Blonde. 11 since top ten list are everywhere and the last point deserves to stand alone! (but it can't because then not everyone would go see the show like they should, so I included ten other points. )

  1. First, my favorite thing about the show. It is pretty darn funny. I don't mean like the funny that just a few of you think is funny, but genuinely funny. You can not help but laugh at thing like the bend or snap or Elle's insults hurled towards Vivienne!
  2. OMG! I totally will be like dropping things, bending and snapping, and just like always like talking like this for like a few days! OMG!
  3. Live animals in a show always melt your heart. The dogs are soooo adorable. And I am a dude. Think about that.
  4. Girls: There is some man candy.
  5. Guys: The girls are definitely rockin' it.
  6. UPS will never be the same again!
  7. Every show has it's defining note. Now Elle she can sing, and so she does. But the defining note goes to Vivienne! She has one note that blew me away and will be the note I remember from Legally Blonde. (Sorry Elle!)
  8. Technically the show has many of a costume change and scene change and still it was cohesive. The piece did not feel clunky or like it ever just did not connect in a smooth way. The crowd was moved place to place and outfit to outfit seamlessly. (Ha! Like that pun?)
  9. For me, not only does a shows number have to keep me entertained, but my eyes like to be dazzled as well. As I said above, the changes in the show keep me looking from place to place. Whether it be the shoes, and not dance shoes eek, or the new scene, I was always looking at some good stuff!
  10. You keep moving, never slowing down until the curtain falls. Sure everyone will say a show has energy, yet this one really does. Elle's attitude comes across in the score and you feel it in your heart. And in your toes. I was all jazzed and ready to go out on the town after the show, it really made me move in my seat.

11. And finally, with all due respect Galinda..., PINK is this year's pink!
